Summary
I am a quality-oriented, results-driven technology enthusiast with nearly three decades of experience in Silicon Valley spanning all aspects of marketing, product strategy, and public relations. My journey has taken me from the scrappy dot-com boom to the dawn of Web 2.0 and social networking, through 15 years at Google leading marketing and advocacy for open platforms, developer ecosystems, and AI-driven enterprise data solutions.
Experience
Google (August 2011 – Present)
15 years across Enterprise Cloud, Developer Ecosystems, Analytics, and Consumer Social
I lead marketing for Looker and Conversational Analytics across Google Data Cloud.
- AI Transformation & Positioning: I have spearheaded narrative creation, messaging, and go-to-market strategy that evolved Looker from a traditional BI suite into an AI-first conversational platform, deeply integrated with BigQuery and Google Workspace.
- Flagship Content & Strategic Campaigns: I own the content engine for major launch milestones, sales enablement, analyst relations, customer case studies, and sessions for Google Cloud Next and Gemini at Work.
- Mentorship: I've lean into my experience to advise and coach peers and early-career marketers at Google.
I led the global advocacy team for Google Analytics and Google Marketing Platform, connecting product teams directly with millions of marketers, data analysts, and developers.
- Accelerated product evangelism and scaled community engagement by 2–3x across social, video, and industry conferences.
- Co-hosted the weekly YouTube series Measure Matters, breaking down updates, measurement trends, and best practices directly for the developer and analytics community.
Recruited to create and scale a global live-video initiative connecting Google engineers and product teams with developers worldwide.
- Launched and led Google Developers Live, establishing global recording studios, hiring video producers, and programming 24/7 technical broadcasts that laid the foundation for today’s Google Developer Studio.
- Hosted live developer broadcasts around the clock, including anchor duties on the developer live stage at Google I/O 2013. Managed the Developer Relations blog and social channels.
Joined Google at the height of its social initiative as a Google+ evangelist and PMM lead for Google+ Search, Profiles, the Social Graph, the Google Bar, and Real Names strategy. Concurrently managed product marketing for Blogger and Google Reader, steering communications and dozens of feature launches as both products transitioned to modern infrastructure.
Startup Marketing, Consulting & Tech Publishing (Pre-Google)
For 20 years and over 3,000 published articles, I’ve operated a widely read Silicon Valley technology blog focused on early adopters, startups, syndication (RSS), and social web innovation. The site served as an early launchpad for standout products including TweetDeck (acquired by Twitter), Beluga (acquired by Facebook), Feedly, and Socialmedian (acquired by Xing). Regular speaker and panelist at forums including South by Southwest (SXSW), BlogWorld Expo, LeWeb, DeFrag, and the Inbound Marketing Summit.
Adviser to founders on go-to-market strategies, positioning, and early adopter outreach for startups including PostIntelligence (acquired by Uber), Teens in Tech, SocialToo, and BuzzGain.
Led marketing, product positioning, and partner business development for an AI-driven personalized news stream startup. Partnered with Barnes & Noble (NOOKColor), Samsung, Twitter, and Google; expanded the user base from 10,000 to over 100,000 active users with more than 250,000 application downloads.
Co-founded a boutique consultancy advising enterprise tech companies and emerging startups on social media strategy, inbound marketing, and PR. Client roster included Hewlett-Packard (HP), Emulex (acquired by Avago), Kosmix (acquired by Walmart Labs), Ocarina Networks (acquired by Dell), Codesion (acquired by CollabNet), and Maxiscale.
Led corporate messaging, branding, PR, and demand generation for a high-performance network storage company through its growth to $20M in quarterly revenue. Launched five generations of storage hardware and authored hundreds of customer case studies and press announcements. (Acquired by Hitachi Data Systems in 2011).
Designed web positioning, customer collateral, and online marketing campaigns for an early ASP pioneer in web conferencing and internet faxing. (Acquired by Oracle in 2001).
Conducted early search engine optimization (SEO) analysis and corporate web development during the AltaVista, InfoSeek, Excite, and early Yahoo! eras.
